Study note
Setting — The angel addresses Daniel during the revelation of the seventy-weeks vision, responding to Daniel’s prayer concerning Jerusalem’s desolation.
The words — מֹצָא דָבָר (mo.Tza' da.Var) translates literally as “the going forth of the word,” denoting the authoritative decree that initiates the timeline.
The thread — The decree to rebuild Jerusalem echoes the halted construction recorded in Ezra 4:24, while the title “Messiah, the Prince” aligns with the promised ruler in Isaiah 9:6 and the commanded leader in Isaiah 55:4.
Why it lands — It commands the reader to calculate the interval between a historical royal decree and the arrival of the anointed ruler, anchoring future hope in a fixed, divinely ordained sequence.
