Ezekiel 10:19

As I watched, the cherubim lifted their wings and rose up from the ground, with the wheels beside them as they went. And they stopped at the entrance of the east gate of the house of the LORD, with the glory of the God of Israel above them.

Study note

Setting — Ezekiel narrates a vision to himself at the moment the divine glory shifts from the temple threshold and the cherubim prepare to depart.

The words — וַיִּשְׂאוּ (va-yiśʾû) and וַיֵּרֹמוּ (va-yērômû) literally mean "and they lifted up" and "and they rose," describing the cherubim's physical ascent from the earth.

The thread — The cherubim's coordinated motion and the positioning of God's glory above them reappear in Ezekiel 1:17 regarding their movement, in Ezekiel 1:26 describing the throne above the expanse, and in Ezekiel 8:16 near the temple entrance.

Why it lands — The text requires the reader to observe the precise departure of divine presence from the sanctuary and to recognize that God's glory moves with the living creatures rather than remaining fixed to the building.

King James Version

And the cherubims lifted up their wings, and mounted up from the earth in my sight: when they went out, the wheels also were beside them, and every one stood at the door of the east gate of the Lord’s house; and the glory of the God of Israel was over them above.
