Isaiah

Who
Isaiah of Jerusalem. Many scholars hold that chapters 40 onward come from one or more later writers addressing the exile; others read the whole book as his. The book itself names him at the start.
When
The eighth century BC for the earlier chapters; the later ones speak into the exile, two centuries on.
What it is
Judgment on a nation that has stopped caring about justice, and then comfort, and a servant who suffers for others.
What to watch for
The tone turns at chapter 40 — from warning to consolation — and it is the most quoted book in the New Testament after Psalms.
But He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed.Isaiah 53:5
