Jeremiah 36:6

so you are to go to the house of the LORD on a day of fasting, and in the hearing of the people you are to read the words of the LORD from the scroll you have written at my dictation. Read them in the hearing of all the people of Judah who are coming from their cities.

Study note

Setting — Jeremiah instructs Baruch to enter the temple on a designated fast day and read the scroll before the assembled people of Judah returning from their towns.

The words — The Hebrew verb קָרָאתָ (qārāʾtā) means "you will read aloud," paired with כָּתַבְתָּ (kāṯaḇtā) "you have written" to anchor the public reading to a dictated text.

The thread — This temple proclamation mirrors the public declaration commanded in Jeremiah 7:2 and corresponds to the fasting observance described in Leviticus 16:29.

Why it lands — The text requires Baruch to deliver the written words verbatim before the gathered community, placing the burden of hearing on the listeners rather than on the speaker's presence.

King James Version

Therefore go thou, and read in the roll, which thou hast written from my mouth, the words of the Lord in the ears of the people in the Lord’s house upon the fasting day: and also thou shalt read them in the ears of all Judah that come out of their cities.
