Joel

Who

Joel son of Pethuel; nothing else is known of him.

When

Undatable from the text; proposals run from the ninth century to the fourth.

What it is

A locust plague read as a warning, and then a promise that the Spirit will be poured out on everyone.

What to watch for

Peter quotes its middle section on the day of Pentecost, which is where most readers meet it.

So rend your hearts and not your garments, and return to the LORD your God. For He is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger, abounding in loving devotion. And He relents from sending disaster.Joel 2:13
