Romans 8:11

And if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit, who lives in you.

Study note

Setting — Paul addresses the Roman church at the hinge between diagnosis (v. 10: body dead, spirit alive) and command (v. 12: do not live according to the flesh), asserting the Spirit's indwelling as the warrant for both.

The words — ἐγεῖραντος (egeirantos), aorist participle of ἐγείρω, "having raised up"; it is the same verb Paul uses for Christ's resurrection and here carries the entire argument: the same act that produced Christ's life is the guarantee of the believer's.

The thread — 2 Corinthians 4:14 states the same logic in compact form: the One who raised the Lord Jesus will also raise us. Romans 6:4 grounds the pattern in baptismal union with Christ's death and resurrection; 2 Corinthians 4:11 adds the present-tense "death and life" dynamic that v. 11 resolves.

Why it lands — The verse removes the reader from the position of waiting and places them inside a completed divine act: resurrection is not a future possibility but the extension of what already happened to Christ, and the Spirit in them is the evidence that it is already underway.
