What does the Bible say about work?

Given before anything went wrong, made hard afterwards, and never treated as beneath notice.

Then the LORD God took the man and placed him in the Garden of Eden to cultivate and keep it.Genesis 2:15

Work is in the garden before the fall, not a consequence of it.

By the sweat of your brow you will eat your bread, until you return to the ground—because out of it were you taken. For dust you are, and to dust you shall return.”Genesis 3:19

What changed: by the sweat of your brow.

Whatever you do, work at it with your whole being, as for the Lord and not for men,Colossians 3:23

Whatever you do, "work at it with your whole being" — written to slaves, which is worth knowing.

And I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with skill, ability, and knowledge in all kinds of craftsmanship,Exodus 31:3

God fills a craftsman with skill, and the first person said to be filled with the Spirit is an artisan.

For what does a man get for all the toil and striving with which he labors under the sun?Ecclesiastes 2:22

"What does a man get for all the toil" — the book does not answer quickly.

For even while we were with you, we gave you this command: “If anyone is unwilling to work, he shall not eat.”2 Thessalonians 3:10

Bluntly practical, and aimed at people who had stopped working on principle.
