Study note
Setting — The chronicler narrates the conclusion of King Amaziah’s reign, recording the political reaction in Jerusalem and the royal flight to Lachish following his apostasy.
The words — The Hebrew סָר (sar) denotes the king’s decisive turning aside from covenant loyalty, while וַ/יִּקְשְׁר֨וּ (va/i.yik.she.Ru) describes the active plotting of his subjects against him.
The thread — This event parallels the account in 2 Kings 14:19, which records the same conspiracy, flight, and assassination at Lachish. The chronicler also points readers to the Book of the Kings of Judah and Israel for the full record of his acts (2 Chronicles 25:26).
Why it lands — The text states that abandonment of Yahweh directly triggered a royal conspiracy and execution, asking the reader to recognize that covenant unfaithfulness initiates immediate historical consequences.
