Daniel 11:36

Then the king will do as he pleases and will exalt and magnify himself above every god, and he will speak monstrous things against the God of gods. He will be successful until the time of wrath is completed, for what has been decreed must be accomplished.

Study note

Setting — Daniel records a vision concerning a future king’s conduct during the appointed time of the end. The prophecy addresses the king’s autonomous actions and their duration until wrath is completed.

The words — The Hebrew verb עָשָׂה (‘a.Sah) translates literally as “he will do,” while the phrase כִּרְצוֹנוֹ (khi/r.tzo.N/o) means “according to his pleasure.” These terms establish the king’s independent action before his self-magnification.

The thread — The theme of self-exaltation above every deity appears in 2 Thessalonians 2:4 and Revelation 13:5. The title “God of gods” echoes Deuteronomy 10:17.

Why it lands — The text states that earthly arrogance operates only until a fixed decree is fulfilled. Readers must acknowledge that divine timing overrides human authority.
