In my vision in the night I continued to watch, and I saw One like the Son of Man coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into His presence.

Study note

Setting — Daniel recounts a night vision to the reader, positioned at the climax of a throne-room judgment in which the four beasts have just been dealt with (v. 12). The human figure appears after the beasts, not before them.

The words — חָזֵה (cha.Zeh), "seeing," is the prophetic participle marking a divinely given vision rather than casual observation. עֲנָנֵי ('a.na.Nei) is plural — "clouds," not a single cloud — a detail the Greek and English renderings flatten.

The thread — Jesus applies this title to himself in Matthew 26:64 and Luke 21:27, and Revelation 1:7 recasts the cloud-coming as a universal event. The Daniel image is the source; the New Testament claims it.

Why it lands — The figure does not seize the throne; he is "led into His presence" and then "given" dominion (v. 14). The reader is asked to locate their allegiance under a received, not self-asserted, authority.
