Psalms 93:1

The LORD reigns! He is robed in majesty; the LORD has clothed and armed Himself with strength. The world indeed is firmly established; it cannot be moved.

Study note

Setting — A congregational declaration of Yahweh's kingship, part of the royal psalm cluster (Psalms 93–99) associated with the temple. The speaker addresses Yahweh directly, not a human king.

The words — מָלָךְ (mālak) is a bare declarative: "he reigns," not "may he reign" or "he will reign." The Hiphil verb הִתְאַזָּר (hit'āzzār) — "he has girded himself" — is martial, the image of a warrior strapping on equipment before battle.

The thread — The same formula "YHWH mālak" appears in Psalms 96:10 and 99:1, pairing divine reign with the stability of the world. 1 Chronicles 29:12 echoes the ruler-over-all motif in David's dedication prayer.

Why it lands — The verse offers no comfort and no command; it asserts a fact and leaves the reader to reckon with it. If the world is fixed and its King is armed, the reader's sense of disorder is not the final word.

King James Version

The Lord reigneth, he is clothed with majesty; the Lord is clothed with strength, wherewith he hath girded himself: the world also is stablished, that it cannot be moved.
