Day 2: The first of His signs
Read
Notice
- Jesus tells his mother his hour has not come, and then acts anyway. What do you make of that?
- The water was for washing — ritual purification. It comes out as wine at a party. Sit with the swap before deciding what it means.
- Two scenes, a wedding and a temple. What does each one say about what he has come to do?
Follow
Jesus performed this, the first of His signs, at Cana in Galilee. He thus revealed His glory, and His disciples believed in Him.John 2:11
Yesterday said "we have seen His glory". Today says where they first saw it.

Nearest in meaning: John 4:54
John does not call them miracles. He calls them signs — the word appears in seventeen verses of this Gospel — and a sign is not the point, it points. Follow the word to John 20:30 and he tells you outright why he chose which ones to write down.
The thread back to John 1:14 is a cross-reference other readers drew long before you: yesterday's verse said they beheld his glory, and this one says the first sign revealed it. The same claim, one chapter apart.
Keep
A sign points away from itself. What have you been treating as the destination?
Tomorrow: a teacher comes at night, and a snake on a pole.
