Isaiah 9:7

Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish and sustain it with justice and righteousness from that time and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of Hosts will accomplish this.

Study note

Setting — The prophet Isaiah addresses Judah and Israel, describing the future reign of a Davidic ruler immediately following the announcement of a child’s birth in verse 6.

The words — לְמַרְבֵּה הַמִּשְׂרָה (le./mar.beh ha./mis.Rah) means "to the increase of the dominion," paired with אֵין קֵץ ('ein Ketz), which literally reads "there is no end."

The thread — The promise of an unending Davidic kingdom runs through Luke 1:32, Daniel 2:44, and Daniel 7:14.

Why it lands — The text states that justice and righteousness will permanently establish and sustain this reign, and concludes that the zeal of the LORD of Hosts alone will accomplish it.

King James Version

Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.
